Chess Again

After I made my first chess set Doran was going to buy a scroll saw book online when he came across a book on making wooden chess sets. He showed it to me and I said it looked interesting. Then he went ahead and bought it before he knew if I wanted it or not, but I ended up liking it more than I thought I would.

The pieces were bigger and more complex to make. But through trial and error I got five dud pieces and it was quit clear I was doing something wrong. So I finally I came upon the conclusion it was the scroll saw, partly me, but mostly the scroll saw. So the whole chess set thing came to screeching halt.

About four months later there was a scroll saw show locally and Dad bought a brand new scroll saw (and its very rare for dad to buy brand new machines). With the new saw I finally got a good piece. It took a long time (much longer than four days like the other one did) but I made all the pieces, and a matching board.

They were very hard to make. I put pennies in the bottom of the pieces for added weight. The pieces and the board all have felt on the bottom.

Here are some pictures of my latest and greatest Mahogany and Aspen chess set.

I'm definitely not giving this away. And no, its not for sale.
But I do plan on making more that will be for sale.
